So when was the last time you’ve had a really massive Chicken Chop or a nice creamy durian ice cream? We’ve chanced upon this really simple eatery called Charlie’s Cafe in the quiet corner of Taman Desa, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Started by 2 lovely couples from Borneo, Charlie’s cafe is a family-run social enterprise and an advocate of the concept known as “pay-it-forward”, where patrons may pay more than their billed amount and the extras are used for street-feeding, less fortunate patrons or charity functions.
Receipts on the wall indicate amount paid towards the “Pay-it-forward” initiative.
Charlie’s chicken chop has been one of the bestsellers and they boast thousands of chicken chop has been served since day 1. We were curious and of course went ahead to order one for ourselves and also Nasi Lemak as well. It was a really tough decision to pick which to choose from their menu but we’ll be back soon to conquer the other dishes anyway.
The portion of the dishes are absolutely generous and we find that the curry that came with the Nasi Lemak was matchmake in heaven. Crispy fried chicken fillet flooded in the silky curry sauce is something you would want to have on a gloomy afternoon, and pair them all together with a price tag of RM14.90 screams “COMFORT FOOOOOOD!”
Bet you doubted when we said their chicken chop is massive. “Picture, or never happened yada yada…” so here it is! The massive chicken chop as big as your ego and big enough to anger staunch vegans. Top with some mushrooms and a choice of sauces: black pepper, cheese, or mushroom, this is one hell of a chicken chop.
We love how crunchy and well marinated it was and every bite was pure pleasure. For only RM17.90, you’re not leaving Charlie’s cafe with much room for the next meal.
No matter how stuffed you are, desserts will always have a special place in our stomach.
Their durian soft serve is a must try! For only RM7.90, this cup of creamy durian softserve is the only thing you need to beat the heat. Kid you not, this softserve is made from 100% durian and it is self-evident. So durian lovers, knock yourselves out.
Psst.. by the way, show the cashier this blog post and get a free ice lemon tea (worth RM4.90) for every purchase of Laksa Malaysia, Laksa Sarawak or Chicken Chop!
